For registration dates, schedules, and league information, see the fall semester or spring semester recreational activities lists.

Intramural Sports Weather Policy

Lightning is a hazard that must be viewed seriously. Everyone should immediately seek shelter any time lightning is seen.

Since the intramural fields across State Route 72 consist of metal fences and open areas, the only shelter would be in vehicles. Those who do not have a vehicle to climb into are strongly encouraged to find shelter across the road in one of the residence halls or in the Fitness Center in Callan Athletic Center.

Once the threat of lightning is over, play may resume.

All registrations are completed online through the registration system.

If you're registering a team, you'll need:

  • Your teammates' names and login names.
  • Your team's preferred playing days and times.
  • Any scheduling conflicts.

Register Early: Teams and individuals who register earlier during the registration period have a better chance of receiving their preferred playing days and times.

Level of Competition

Many intramural sports offer multiple divisions so you can compete with others at a similar skill level.

A League

Best for experienced players looking for a higher level of competition.

  • Higher-than-average skill level
  • More competitive and fast-paced games
  • Great for players with previous experience

B League

Best for players who want a fun, recreational experience.

  • Friendly but competitive atmosphere
  • Ideal for newer or recreational players

Not every sport offers both A and B divisions. Reference the specific semester activity details page for the divisions available for each sport.

Team Captain Responsibilities

Team captains play an important role in helping their team have a great intramural experience. As the primary contact between Campus Recreation and your team, you'll help keep everyone informed, organized, and ready to play.

Before the Season

  • Read and understand the Intramural Sports Handbook.
  • Review the rules and activity details for your sport.
  • Register your team and select a Christ-honoring team name.
  • Gather the information needed to register your teammates, including names, login names, and scheduling conflicts.

Throughout the Season

  • Communicate schedules, game locations, and important updates with your team.
  • Ensure your team follows all eligibility and participation requirements.
  • Encourage teammates to arrive at least 10 minutes before each game.
  • Assist officials in confirming player identities before each contest.

Lead by Example

  • Promote Christ-honoring sportsmanship at all times.
  • Treat opponents, teammates, and officials with respect.
  • Help create a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Campus Recreation reserves the right to change or reject any team name that is inappropriate or inconsistent with University standards. Teams submitting an inappropriate or questionable team name may have their name changed or may be removed from further competition.

Physical Risks and Injuries

Participation in intramural sports and other Campus Recreation activities is voluntary. By choosing to participate, you acknowledge that recreational activities involve inherent risks of injury.

Campus Recreation is committed to providing a safe environment for participants. However, intramural sports are recreational in nature and do not receive the same level of medical support as intercollegiate athletics.

If an Injury Occurs

  • Notify the game official or on-duty supervisor immediately.
  • If emergency medical care is needed, Campus Recreation staff will contact Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
  • Athletic trainers are not present at intramural competitions.

Participant Responsibility

  • Know your own physical limitations before participating.
  • Consider obtaining a physical examination before participating in recreational activities.
  • Participate only when you are healthy enough to do so safely.

Protests

Most questions can be resolved at the game site by speaking respectfully with the game official. Only the following types of protests will be considered:

  • Player eligibility
  • Misinterpretation of a playing rule

Officials' judgment calls are final and cannot be protested.

Eligibility Protests

If you believe an opposing player is ineligible:

  • Notify the game official and the opposing team captain before or during the contest.
  • If the concern cannot be resolved, ask the official to note the protest on the scorecard.
  • Campus Recreation staff will review the protest and determine player eligibility.

Rule Interpretation Protests

If you believe a playing rule has been misapplied:

  • Notify the head official immediately when the incident occurs.
  • Clearly state that you are filing a rule interpretation protest.
  • If the issue cannot be resolved, the official will record the game situation and reason for the protest on the scorecard, and play will continue under protest.
  • The team captain must contact the Campus Recreation Office on the next business day to discuss the protest with the Director of Campus Recreation.

Protest Decisions

The Director of Campus Recreation will review all protests and make the final decision. If a protest is upheld, the game may be replayed from the point of the protest. Only players who participated in the original game may compete in the replay.

Forfeits and Defaults

If your team cannot field enough players or does not arrive on time, the game may be recorded as a forfeit. If you know in advance that your team cannot play, please notify Campus Recreation as early as possible to receive a default instead.

Game Time

  • Teams must be ready to play within five minutes of the scheduled game time.
  • Teams that are not ready to play within five minutes may forfeit the contest.

  • Teams may not add non-rostered players to avoid a forfeit.
  • Once a forfeit has been declared, teams may pick up other players for an unofficial pickup game.

Season Forfeits

  • A team that receives two forfeits during a season for non-appearance will be removed from further competition.

If your team knows it cannot attend a scheduled game, notify the Campus Recreation Office by 3:30 p.m. on the day of the game to receive a default instead of a forfeit.

  • Teams may receive up to two defaults during a season.
  • A third default will be recorded as a forfeit.

Sportsmanship

Intramural sports are an opportunity to compete, build friendships, and honor Christ through the way we play. All participants are expected to compete with integrity, demonstrate respect for others, and follow both the spirit and the letter of the rules.

II Timothy 2:5 (NKJV) "And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules."

What We Expect

  • Treat teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators with respect.
  • Compete fairly and follow the rules of the game.
  • Display Christ-honoring attitudes and behavior before, during, and after competition.
  • Accept officials' decisions respectfully.

Sportsmanship Ratings

Officials evaluate each team's sportsmanship following every contest.

4 – GoodAn attitude of respect for, and cooperation with, game officials and opponents is shown. No warnings or ejections are given for poor sportsmanship. Only minor infractions of sportsmanship occur.
3 – FairCooperation with game officials and opponents is shown, but with more complaining and grumbling. The team may receive one red card or ejection, or one or two yellow cards or warnings for poor sportsmanship.
2 – PoorThe team fails to show a spirit of cooperation with officials or opponents. • Teams may not receive more than one rating below 2.0 during the regular season.
  • Teams must earn at least a 2 (Fair) rating in every playoff game to remain eligible.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Poor sportsmanship may result in warnings, penalties, ejections, suspensions, or removal from competition.

  • Abusive or profane language will not be tolerated.
  • Players ejected for poor sportsmanship are automatically suspended for their team's next game.
  • A second ejection during the same sport season results in a two-game suspension.
  • Campus Recreation may remove individuals or entire teams whose conduct is inconsistent with the mission of the Intramural Sports Program.

Physical Altercations

  • Participants involved in a minor physical altercation (such as pushing without punches), whether the primary aggressor or someone who retaliates, will be ejected and suspended for their team's next two games.
  • Participants involved in a fight in which punches are thrown, whether the primary aggressor or someone who retaliates, will be suspended from all intramural competition for a minimum of 10 weeks.

Campus Recreation may remove an individual or an entire team from competition during either the regular season or playoffs if their conduct is inconsistent with the mission of the Intramural Sports Program. Examples include, but are not limited to, multiple teammates participating in a fight, repeated dangerous play, or repeated abusive language.

Intramural Officials and Scorekeepers

Intramural officials play an important role in creating a fun, fair, and competitive experience for everyone. If you enjoy sports and want to develop leadership skills while earning money, officiating may be a great fit.

Why Become an Official?

  • Develop leadership and communication skills.
  • Learn the rules and mechanics of a sport.
  • Build confidence and decision-making skills.
  • Earn competitive student wages.
  • Work a flexible schedule.
  • Meet new people and become more involved on campus.
  • Stay connected to the sports you enjoy.

Training

Previous officiating experience is helpful but not required. Campus Recreation provides training clinics for each sport to teach rules, mechanics, positioning, and game management.

Students may officiate and participate in the same sport, provided they meet all scheduling and eligibility requirements.
